In the WNBA playoffs, the New York Liberty eliminated the top-seeded Minnesota Lynx 87 to 71 as Jonquel Jones supplied 21 points and 13 rebounds. Caitlin Clark had 27 points and 15 assists as the Indiana Fever beat the Las Vegas Aces 99 to 89. In the NHL season opener, the Boston Bruins shut out the New York Rangers 3 to 0 and the Florida Panthers beat the Carolina Hurricanes.
Up next, all four MLB Wild Card series reach Game 2, with every team trailing one game to none facing elimination. The Red Sox get another shot at the Yankees after Rice’s six-RBI opener, while the Phillies visit the Braves, the Astros host the White Sox and the Cubs try to answer the Padres. In the WNBA playoffs, the Atlanta Dream can advance by beating the Washington Mystics, while the Golden State Valkyries take a one-game lead into their road meeting with the Dallas Wings after hitting 18 threes in the opener. Beyond the scoreboard, the NBA is reviewing three finalist groups for a Las Vegas expansion team, with the combined team-and-arena cost expected to reach at least 12 billion dollars.
