The San Diego Padres eliminated the Chicago Cubs 4 to 1 as pinch-hitter Gavin Sheets launched a two-run homer and five pitchers combined on a five-hitter. The Philadelphia Phillies stayed alive against the Atlanta Braves 4 to 3 in ten innings; Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper went back-to-back in the eighth before Alec Bohm’s two-out homer supplied the winning run. In the WNBA playoffs, the Atlanta Dream swept out the Washington Mystics 93 to 75. Allisha Gray scored 22, and Jordin Canada delivered 13 of her 19 in the fourth quarter to send Atlanta to its first semifinals since 2018.
Looking ahead, the MLB Wild Card round comes down to one game Thursday between the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. Aaron Nola is lined up opposite Grant Holmes after Philadelphia erased a late two-run deficit Wednesday, with the winner advancing to the Division Series. Beyond the scoreboard, Pittsburgh traded cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-rounder.
