Dodgers seize the edge, Padres stay alive, Rangers extend winning streak

Dodgers seize the edge.

This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday October 7th

In the MLB postseason, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves 3 to 1 and grabbed a 2–1 NLDS lead. Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run over seven innings, struck out a playoff-career-high 10, and gave the Dodgers control of the night. Freddie Freeman and Kiké Hernández supplied the power with home runs, leaving Los Angeles one victory from a third straight NLCS. The San Diego Padres stayed alive by beating the Milwaukee Brewers 4 to 3, as Jake Cronenworth hit the go-ahead homer and Michael King worked the final two innings one day after starting Game 2. In the NHL, Alexis Lafrenière scored three times as the New York Rangers handled the New York Islanders 5 to 2 for their fourth straight win. In the NBA preseason, Yaxel Lendeborg had 17 points and nine rebounds as the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers 124 to 98.

Resetting to Wednesday, all four MLB division series are in action. The Chicago White Sox can eliminate the Cleveland Guardians in Game 3 after winning their first four postseason games on the road. The Tampa Bay Rays also carry a 2–0 series lead into Yankee Stadium, where the New York Yankees need a win to extend their season. In the National League, the Dodgers can finish the Braves in Game 4, while the Brewers get another chance to close out the Padres after Tuesday’s narrow miss. In the WNBA semifinals, the Atlanta Dream take a 1–0 lead into Game 2 against the New York Liberty, but leading scorer Allisha Gray is out with a hand injury. The Golden State Valkyries also lead 1–0 before facing the Las Vegas Aces, with Gabby Williams coming off 25 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Beyond the scoreboard, Philadelphia Eagles tackle Lane Johnson retired after 14 seasons, saying he needs to focus on his mental health after a career featuring two Super Bowl titles and six Pro Bowls.
