Nick Martinez allowed one run over five and a third innings. In the WNBA Finals, Gabby Williams scored 26 points and hit four late free throws as the Golden State Valkyries edged the Atlanta Dream 68 to 64 in Game 1. In college football, it was a day of several upsets to top teams. In the NHL, Connor McDavid had five points as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Utah Mammoth 6 to 2. In UFC, Mike Malott stopped Joaquin Buckley in the welterweight main event.
Looking ahead, MLB’s ALCS moves to Game 5 on Sunday in Cleveland, with Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen facing Guardians rookie Parker Messick in a series tied at two. Rasmussen struck out seven over six innings in Game 1, while Messick allowed three unearned runs over five innings in Game 2. In the NFL, the Dallas Cowboys visit the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field, the Los Angeles Chargers face the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs, and the Buffalo Bills meet the Las Vegas Raiders. The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars open the day at Wembley Stadium. Beyond the scoreboard, the Philadelphia Eagles placed Jalen Hurts on injured reserve after follow-up testing showed movement in a superficial blood clot in his calf, ruling him out for at least four games as Tanner McKee takes over at quarterback.
