Philadelphia 76ers spoil the Knicks party!
It's Wednesday October 21st and the sports reset is getting busy. We've entered a rare jam-packed stretch over the coming days of major league sports including NFL, MLB, WNBA, NHL and F1. So let's get to it.
On NBA opening day, the 76ers spoiled the New York Knicks’ championship ring night with a 106 to 100 win. Tyrese Maxey scored 28 points, Jaylen Brown added 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists in his Philadelphia debut, and LeBron James had 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists as he began an NBA-record 24th season. The Detroit Pistons erased a 22-point deficit with a 23 to 0 fourth-quarter run, beating the Boston Celtics 121 to 113, while the Oklahoma City Thunder topped the San Antonio Spurs 116 to 104 behind Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 32 points. In the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Vegas Golden Knights 6 to 2, the Dallas Stars edged the Boston Bruins 3 to 2, and the New Jersey Devils held off the Colorado Avalanche 4 to 3.
Looking ahead, the WNBA Finals shift to Atlanta for Game 3, with the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream tied at one game apiece. Angel Reese enters after collecting 30 points and 16 rebounds in Game 2, when the Dream earned their first Finals win in franchise history, and both clubs are chasing their first championship. In the NBA, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors visit Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers, while the Dallas Mavericks meet Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets. The Milwaukee Bucks visit the Washington Wizards, the Minnesota Timberwolves travel to the Miami Heat, and the Atlanta Hawks face the Orlando Magic. Beyond the scoreboard, the NFL Players Association is seeking a full investigation into the care Jalen Hurts received after the NFL said the Philadelphia Eagles handled his blood-clot case appropriately.
