Morocco and France advance!

In the World Cup Round of 16, Morocco ended Canada’s run with a 3 to 0 win, and Azzedine Ounahi’s second-half brace turned a tense game into a quaterfinal ticket. France followed with a 1 to 0 win over Paraguay, with Kylian Mbappe’s 70th-minute penalty breaking through a stubborn defensive setup and sending France into a quarterfinal with Morocco.

In MLB, the Seattle Mariners rolled past the Toronto Blue Jays 11 to 0 behind a one-hit pitching night and a Randy Arozarena grand slam. The Minnesota Twins beat the New York Yankees 11 to 4, powered by six home runs, while the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the San Diego Padres 3 to 0.

In the WNBA, the Golden State Valkyries edged the Atlanta Dream 88 to 83, and the Portland Fire beat the Seattle Storm 77 to 72.

Looking ahead, the World Cup keeps the day centered with Norway facing Brazil at MetLife Stadium and England meeting Mexico at Estadio Banorte, both Round of 16 games with quarterfinal spots on the line today.

In MLB, the San Diego Padres get another shot at the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, while the Toronto Blue Jays try to answer that shutout in Seattle against the Mariners. The Minnesota Twins and New York Yankees also run it back at Yankee Stadium after Minnesota’s power show.

In golf, the John Deere Classic continues today with Lee Hodges and Lucas Glover tied at 16 under, and Jackson Suber one shot back.

In the WNBA, Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces gives the league its top matchup of the day.

And in racing today we have the Formula1 British British Grand Prix and the NASCAR the Cup Series rolls into Chicago.

Finally in tennis, Serena Williams withdrew from Wimbledon doubles with Venus because of a knee injury, delaying a reunion that had real buzz.
