Norway stuns Brazil!

In the World Cup Round of 16, Norway knocked out Brazil 2 to 1, with Erling Haaland scoring twice late to send Norway into the quarterfinals and end Brazil’s run earlier than expected. Brazil had a missed first-half penalty, then Neymar’s stoppage-time penalty only cut the gap after Haaland had already flipped the night. England also moved on, beating Mexico 3 to 2 after Jude Bellingham scored twice and Harry Kane added a penalty while England played down a man. In golf, Chris Gotterup won the John Deere Classic at 20 under, one shot ahead of Max Homa. In Formula 1, Charles Leclerc won the British Grand Prix, with George Russell second and Lewis Hamilton third. In NASCAR, Chase Briscoe took the Chicago Cup race ahead of Christopher Bell. In MLB, the New York Mets outlasted the Atlanta Braves 10 to 9, and in WNBA, the Indiana Fever beat the Las Vegas Aces 84 to 68.

Resetting to today, the World Cup gets the front seat again. The United States plays Belgium at Lumen Field in a Round of 16 game with a huge home-audience feel, and Folarin Balogun is available after FIFA suspended his red-card ban, which gives the U.S. its top scorer back for the night. Spain and Portugal also meet at AT&T Stadium, a heavyweight knockout game with the winner moving one step closer to the semifinals later this week. In MLB, the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves run it back after that 19-run game, while the New York Yankees visit the Tampa Bay Rays and the Colorado Rockies face the Los Angeles Dodgers. The WNBA slate has the Golden State Valkyries at the Washington Mystics, the Connecticut Sun at the Minnesota Lynx, and the Seattle Storm at the Los Angeles Sparks.
