Argentina survives the round!

This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday July 8th.

In the World Cup Round of 16, Argentina beat Egypt 3 to 2 in Atlanta, a close knockout result that ended Egypt’s run and kept Argentina moving into the quarterfinal picture. Switzerland also advanced, playing Colombia to a 0 to 0 draw in Vancouver before winning 4 to 3 on penalties.

In MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers handled a full doubleheader in St. Louis, edging the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 3 in Game 1 and then taking Game 2 by a wider 10 to 2. The Kansas City Royals outlasted the New York Mets 16 to 12 in the loudest baseball score of the night, while the Colorado Rockies clipped the LA Dodgers 4 to 3.

In the WNBA, the Dallas Wings went into Brooklyn and beat the New York Liberty 88 to 77.

Looking ahead, today brings a reset across WNBA and MLB. In the WNBA, the Golden State Valkyries visit the Toronto Tempo, the Minnesota Lynx go to the Connecticut Sun, and the Indiana Fever close the night at the Los Angeles Sparks.

In MLB, the Milwaukee Brewers are right back at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals after sweeping Tuesday’s doubleheader. The Kansas City Royals and New York Mets also run it back at Citi Field after combining for 28 runs. Elsewhere, the New York Yankees visit the Tampa Bay Rays after Tampa Bay won 6 to 4, and the Colorado Rockies meet the LA Dodgers again after Colorado took Tuesday’s one-run game at Dodger Stadium.
