Wimbledon gave Wednesday its headline, with British wild card Arthur Fery beating Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6, 6-0 to reach the semifinals, where Alexander Zverev is waiting after a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 win over Taylor Fritz. Fery took control after the second-set tiebreak, then finished the match with a runaway third set, turning a great home-crowd story into a real semifinal spot. On the women’s side, Linda Noskova beat Elise Mertens 6-3, 7-5, and Marta Kostyuk handled Jasmine Paolini 6-3, 6-2. In the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx beat the Connecticut Sun 86 to 80, giving Cheryl Reeve her record-setting 380th regular-season coaching win. The Los Angeles Sparks beat the Indiana Fever 106 to 92 as Caitlin Clark returned, but Nneka Ogwumike, Rae Burrell, and Dearica Hamby all cleared 20 for Los Angeles. In MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays beat the San Francisco Giants 10 to 0.

Resetting to today, the World Cup quarterfinal between Morocco and France at Gillette Stadium is the top event on the board, with a semifinal place on the line and one side’s tournament ending by tonight. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever stay on the road at the Phoenix Mercury, while the Seattle Storm visit the Atlanta Dream and the Las Vegas Aces go to the Portland Fire. In MLB, the New York Yankees get another look at the Tampa Bay Rays after being shut out Wednesday, and the Chicago Cubs visit the Baltimore Orioles after a 9 to 7 Cubs win. The Los Angeles Angels are also back at the Texas Rangers after putting up 13 runs last night. In golf, Bernd Wiesberger and Shaun Norris share the early Scottish Open lead at 4 under, while Haeran Ryu and Lottie Woad lead the Amundi Evian Championship at 5 under. Beyond the scoreboard, Justin Verlander says this will be his final MLB season.
