Braves power through!

In MLB, the Atlanta Braves edged the San Diego Padres 6 to 5, with Chris Sale striking out 11 and Atlanta using four home runs to get through a tight one at Truist Park. Dominic Smith’s three-run shot was one of the swings that shaped it, and the Braves kept their NL East lead moving into a road series.

The Detroit Tigers stayed hot by beating the Kansas City Royals 4 to 3, as James Outman hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Dillon Dingler broke the tie with an eighth-inning double. The Toronto Blue Jays avoided a four-game sweep by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 3 to 1, with Shane Bieber giving them seven strong innings.

Elsewhere, the Arizona Diamondbacks outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 10 to 6 in a makeup game, and the Minnesota Twins beat the Cleveland Guardians 3 to 1.

Looking ahead, MLB gets a full Friday board. The best national look is the New York Yankees at the Philadelphia Phillies, with New York trying to get its offense moving on a 10-game road trip while Aaron Judge remains out.

The Los Angeles Dodgers visit the New York Mets in another big-name matchup, with Roki Sasaki set to face a Mets lineup built around Juan Soto, who leads New York in average, homers, and RBIs.

The Atlanta Braves open at the Baltimore Orioles, the Seattle Mariners visit the Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays head to Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox.

In golf, Ben Kohles starts the day leading the PGA 3M Open at 9 under, while Lauren Coughlin and Jenny Shin share the LPGA Scottish Open lead at 6 under.
