Koivun breaks through!

Golf led the Sunday recap, with Jackson Koivun winning the PGA 3M Open at 25 under, three shots clear of Scottie Scheffler. Koivun, just 21 and in only his third pro start, closed with a bogey-free 66, held off a charging Scheffler 63, and set a tournament scoring record after taking control with a Saturday 61. In Formula 1, Lando Norris won the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli, using race pace and pit timing to turn a messy McLaren day into his first victory of the season. On the LPGA, Jenny Shin won the Women’s Scottish Open at 9 under, beating A Lim Kim by two and ending a 10-year win drought. In tennis, Luca Van Assche beat Alexander Blockx in three sets to win the ATP Estoril final, while WTA titles went to Lilli Tagger in Prague, Francesca Jones in Palermo, and Tamara Korpatsch in Hamburg.

Looking ahead, MLB takes the day, and the best thread starts in Arlington, where the Seattle Mariners visit the Texas Rangers again after Seattle’s 6 to 4 rally on Sunday tightened the AL West picture. Dominic Canzone drove that one with a go-ahead three-run homer, and now Texas gets an immediate chance to answer at home. The New York Yankees open at the Chicago White Sox, who just got two homers and six RBIs from Munetaka Murakami in a 12 to 3 win over the Houston Astros. The Philadelphia Phillies head to the Miami Marlins after Bryson Stott’s five-RBI night stopped their slide, and the Atlanta Braves visit the New York Mets after both won Sunday. Later this week, the AIG Women’s Open begins Thursday at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Off the field, the Yankees placed Cody Bellinger on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain, adding another lineup problem with Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton already out.
