Marlins finally break through!

This is The Sports Reset for Tuesday, July 28th.

In MLB, the Miami Marlins ended a franchise-record 12-game losing streak by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 8 to 7, with Griffin Conine delivering the walk-off single after Heriberto Hernández tied it with a two-run single in the ninth. Hernández and Conine also homered off Zack Wheeler, making the comeback feel less like one lucky inning and more like Miami finally putting pressure on a good team. The New York Mets rolled the Atlanta Braves 14 to 3 behind Francisco Lindor, who homered twice, tripled, and drove in six, while Ronald Acuña Jr. returned for Atlanta after missing 37 games. The New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 9 to 5, with Ali Sánchez hitting his first career homer, a three-run shot in the eighth. The San Francisco Giants shut out the Milwaukee Brewers 3 to 0 behind six scoreless innings from Tyler Mahle and Grant McCray’s two-run homer.

Looking ahead, MLB gets a busy Tuesday, starting with the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds making up Monday’s rainout as part of a doubleheader at Great American Ball Park. The Yankees and White Sox continue their series, and Gerrit Cole is scheduled to get the ball for New York against Anthony Kay, a good midweek test between two AL playoff-position teams. The Los Angeles Dodgers also open a home set with the Seattle Mariners, with Los Angeles sending Justin Wrobleski and his 11 and 2 record into that matchup. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever visit the Seattle Storm after entering the break on a three-game winning streak, with Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, and Aliyah Boston driving one of the league’s best offenses. Beyond the scoreboard, Cody Bellinger is expected to miss four to six weeks with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, adding another deadline-week problem for a Yankees lineup already missing Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
