Red Sox wake up L.A.!

This is The Sports Reset for Saturday, August 1st.

In MLB, the Boston Red Sox beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9 to 4 at Dodger Stadium, and the swing point was a five-run seventh after Los Angeles had moved in front. Ceddanne Rafaela drove the Boston offense, going 3 for 5 with a homer, two runs, two RBIs, a stolen base, and an outfield assist, while Shohei Ohtani still gave the Dodgers two hits, a homer, and two RBIs. The New York Yankees also squeezed out a 2 to 0 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, with Will Warren throwing 6 and two-thirds innings and striking out seven. Elsewhere, the Houston Astros rolled past the Texas Rangers 11 to 2, the Detroit Tigers beat the Athletics 13 to 1, and the Minnesota Twins got by the Seattle Mariners 5 to 3. In the WNBA, the Indiana Fever kept the offense moving in a 112 to 98 road win over the Portland Fire, while the Atlanta Dream beat the Seattle Storm 98 to 89.

Looking ahead, MLB gets another full Saturday run, led by the Red Sox and Dodgers back at Dodger Stadium after Boston’s late-inning surge, plus the Yankees and Cubs again at Wrigley with both clubs coming out of Friday at 62 and 48. The Philadelphia Phillies visit the Baltimore Orioles, the Texas Rangers get another shot at the Astros in Houston, and the San Francisco Giants face the San Diego Padres after San Diego’s 7 to 0 shutout on Friday. In the WNBA, the Las Vegas Aces visit the Chicago Sky with A’ja Wilson carrying a 26-point, 9-rebound profile into the afternoon, and the New York Liberty visit the Phoenix Mercury. In golf, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Patrick Fishburn share the Rocket Classic lead at 10 under, while Haeran Ryu starts the day one clear at the AIG Women’s Open. Beyond the scoreboard, Monday’s MLB trade deadline is the week’s big front-office clock, with Tarik Skubal and pitching help driving much of the market conversation.
