Red Sox steal L.A.!

In MLB, the Boston Red Sox edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2, with Ceddanne Rafaela driving the night by homering in the first and third innings. Payton Tolle gave Boston six innings, allowed two runs, and struck out seven, and Aroldis Chapman finished it with the save after the Dodgers piled up 10 hits but only two runs. The Chicago Cubs also got a 5-2 win over the New York Yankees, while the Philadelphia Phillies blanked the Baltimore Orioles 5-0.

In WNBA, the New York Liberty slipped past the Phoenix Mercury 94-92 behind 27 from Sabrina Ionescu, and the Chicago Sky clipped the Las Vegas Aces 84-83.

In UFC, Uros Medic stopped Daniel Rodriguez by first-round TKO in the main event. In WTA tennis, Taylah Preston beat Maddison Inglis in straight sets to take the Odlum Brown VanOpen final.

Looking ahead, MLB has a full Sunday board, with the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers running it back at Dodger Stadium after Rafaela’s two-homer game shifted that series’ weekend tone. The New York Yankees visit the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, and the Texas Rangers are back with the Houston Astros after Houston’s one-run win Saturday.

In WNBA, the Indiana Fever visit the Minnesota Lynx on ABC, with Caitlin Clark’s playmaking and Aliyah Boston’s work on the glass giving that game real star power. In golf, Davis Riley takes a one-shot lead over Michael Brennan into the Rocket Classic finish, while Yealimi Noh starts the AIG Women’s Open finale three shots clear.

In tennis, Taylor Fritz faces Rafael Jodar in the ATP D.C. final, and Jessica Pegula meets Alexandra Eala in the WTA D.C. final. Later this week, the NFL preseason opens Thursday with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals in the Hall of Fame Game.
