Tennis led the night, with Alexandra Eala taking the WTA Mubadala DC Open final over top-seeded Jessica Pegula in three sets, closing with a 6 0 final set, while Taylor Fritz won the ATP final over Rafael Jodar in straight sets. In MLB, the St. Louis Cardinals outlasted the New York Yankees 13 to 7 after Alec Burleson hit three two-run homers, including the capper in a seven-run eighth, and Nathan Church added a go-ahead three-run shot. The Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 10 to 5 behind two-run homers from Seiya Suzuki, Carson Kelly and Kevin Alcantara, handing the Dodgers their fourth straight loss. In the WNBA, Jackie Young posted her third career triple-double as the Las Vegas Aces beat the Atlanta Dream 109 to 87, and A’ja Wilson passed Lauren Jackson for sixth on the league’s career blocks list.

Looking ahead, in MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs run it back at Wrigley Field, and the next layer is Tarik Skubal making his first start for Los Angeles after coming over from Detroit, against a Cubs team that just used power and depth to punch back in the series. The St. Louis Cardinals are also back at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees, with New York trying to steady itself after giving up six Cardinal homers. Elsewhere, the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Houston Astros, the San Diego Padres are at the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Tampa Bay Rays get Coors Field against the Colorado Rockies. In the WNBA, the Toronto Tempo visit the Golden State Valkyries, with Aneesah Morrow potentially debuting for a short-handed Toronto team and Golden State coming off another strong defensive effort in the matchup.
