Mets ambush Atlanta!

This is The Sports Reset for Tuesday August 11th

In MLB, the New York Mets beat the Atlanta Braves 8 to 5, landing the first blow with a five-run first inning. Brett Baty supplied four of those runs with his first career grand slam, and Francisco Lindor added a solo homer as the Mets knocked around Bryce Elder for seven runs in five innings. It was a notable upset of an Atlanta club that entered atop the NL East. The Los Angeles Dodgers edged the Kansas City Royals 6 to 5 when Shohei Ohtani singled, stole second and scored on Freddie Freeman’s seventh-inning single. Max Muncy’s three-run double also helped Los Angeles secure only its second win in 10 games. In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream beat the Toronto Tempo 107 to 95. The Seattle Storm topped the Chicago Sky 97 to 88 behind Dominique Malonga’s 26 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks, snapping an 11-game skid.

Up next, the WNBA leads with the New York Liberty at the Indiana Fever tonight. The season series is tied at one game apiece, Indiana shares first place in the Eastern Conference at 20 and 12, and New York sits only a half-game back while riding four straight wins. Kelsey Mitchell brings a 24.2-point scoring average for the Fever, while Caitlin Clark is handing out 8.1 assists per game. The Washington Mystics also visit the Las Vegas Aces, with Washington carrying a seven-game winning streak into a test against A’ja Wilson, who is averaging 26.3 points and 9.7 rebounds. In MLB, the Seattle Mariners open at the New York Yankees behind Bryan Woo against Ryan Weathers. The Mets and Braves run it back in Atlanta after New York’s early outburst Monday. At Dodger Stadium, Blake Snell makes only his second start of the season for the Dodgers against Michael Wacha and the Royals.
