UFC 330 led the way as Islam Makhachev beat Ian Machado Garry by decision to retain the welterweight title. Makhachev dropped Garry with a second-round head kick, controlled him on the ground for more than 12 minutes and earned his UFC-record 17th straight victory. Mackenzie Dern also retained the strawweight belt by defeating Gillian Robertson. In NASCAR, Joey Logano won at Richmond, ahead of Chase Briscoe and Austin Cindric. In NFL preseason action, the Los Angeles Rams beat the Kansas City Chiefs 20 to 12 as rookie Ty Simpson threw two touchdown passes. In MLB, Jacob Misiorowski worked six strong innings as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 to 1. In the WNBA, the Minnesota Lynx topped the Las Vegas Aces 92 to 87.

Looking ahead, Scottie Scheffler carries a two-shot lead into the final round of the PGA Tour’s FedEx St. Jude Championship. Scheffler is 13 under after a third-round 68, while Sam Burns surged into a tie for second with Sungjae Im after shooting 62. Only the top 50 in the FedEx Cup standings advance to Thursday’s BMW Championship. On the LPGA Tour, Sophia Schubert and Arpichaya Yubol share the Portland Classic lead at 16 under, two ahead of Jeeno Thitikul. In the WNBA, the 22-and-12 Indiana Fever visit the 21-and-12 Atlanta Dream. In MLB, the Brewers and Dodgers finish their series after Milwaukee took two of the first three. Beyond the scoreboard, the Seattle Seahawks signed three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Devon Witherspoon to a four-year, 132 million dollar extension with 101 million guaranteed, making him the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback.
