Los Angeles brings the thunder, Dodgers roll past Rockies, Valkyries beat Wings, Dutch Grand Prix ahead ... and more for August 18th
Los Angeles brings the thunder!
This is The Sports Reset for Tuesday August 18th
In MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers powered past the Colorado Rockies 11 to 5 in the highest-scoring performance of the night. Shohei Ohtani entered the series tied for the team lead with five home runs, adding another major threat to a lineup that overwhelmed Colorado’s pitching. The New York Mets edged the San Diego Padres 2 to 1, holding down a Padres club that came in ranked third in the majors in stolen bases. In the WNBA, the Golden State Valkyries beat the Dallas Wings 78 to 70 in the night’s only league game. Gabby Williams entered as Golden State’s leading scorer at 15.8 points per game, while the Valkyries contained a Dallas offense directed by Paige Bueckers, who was averaging 20.2 points and six assists.
Looking ahead, the MLB schedule opens with the New York Yankees visiting the Baltimore Orioles. New York arrived with a 60-and-46 record, a major-league-best 3.41 ERA and 152 home runs, second-most in baseball. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies meet again at Coors Field, while the San Diego Padres get another shot at the New York Mets after Monday’s one-run loss. In the WNBA, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visit the Toronto Tempo. Clark is averaging 21.5 points and 7.9 assists, and Indiana brings the league’s top scoring offense at 95.8 points per game against Marina Mabrey and Toronto. The Atlanta Dream also visit the Las Vegas Aces. Later this week, Formula One returns from its summer break with a sprint weekend at Zandvoort, leading into Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix.
