Milwaukee makes baseball history, Cubs win on walk-off, Buss siblings plan Lakers stake sale ... and more for August 19th

Milwaukee makes baseball history!

This is The Sports Reset for Wednesday August 19th

The story of the night came in MLB, where the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Seattle Mariners 22 to 0, tying the largest shutout margin since 1888 and matching Milwaukee’s single-game scoring record. David Hamilton homered twice, Garrett Mitchell went four-for-six, and every Brewers player who appeared reached base and scored. The Chicago Cubs also edged the Chicago White Sox 4 to 3 on a walk-off homer by Alex Bregman, after Pete Crow-Armstrong opened the game with a home run. In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream beat the Las Vegas Aces 97 to 82, while the Indiana Fever held off the Toronto Tempo 101 to 95.

Looking ahead, the WNBA’s top game sends the Minnesota Lynx to the Golden State Valkyries. Napheesa Collier returned from offseason ankle surgeries with 24 points and 10 rebounds in her season debut, adding another star to a Minnesota team that already owned one of the league’s strongest records. Golden State counters with a defense that has ranked first in the league and a high-scoring bench led by Janelle Salaun. The Tempo also visit the Washington Mystics. In MLB, the Brewers and Mariners meet again after Tuesday’s historic rout, while the Cubs and White Sox continue their crosstown series at Wrigley Field. In golf, the 50-player BMW Championship begins Thursday at Bellerive Country Club, the second stop of the FedEx Cup playoffs. Beyond the scoreboard, five Buss siblings are pressing ahead with plans to sell the family’s remaining 17.8 percent stake in the Los Angeles Lakers, a move Jeanie Buss is contesting because it could end her tenure as team governor.
