Dream punch their ticket!

This is The Sports Reset for Sunday August 23rd

In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream clinched a playoff berth by beating the Phoenix Mercury 99 to 89. Angel Reese delivered a career-high 31 points and 14 rebounds for her 25th double-double, while Atlanta moved into fourth place with seven games remaining. In UFC, Gregory Rodrigues upset sixth-ranked Anthony Hernandez by unanimous decision after landing the heavier strikes and controlling the final two rounds. In Formula One, George Russell led all 24 laps to win the Dutch Grand Prix sprint, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. In MLB, the Seattle Mariners rallied past the Chicago Cubs 5 to 4 on Randy Arozarena’s walk-off two-run homer. Arozarena also homered to open the game, becoming the seventh player in major-league history to hit a leadoff homer and a walk-off homer in the same game.

Looking ahead, the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship finishes Sunday with Wyndham Clark at 17 under, five shots clear of Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay. Clark recovered from a first-hole double bogey Saturday by making five birdies and an eagle across an eight-hole stretch. In Formula One, Norris starts the Dutch Grand Prix from pole beside sprint winner Russell in the final scheduled race at Zandvoort for the foreseeable future. In LPGA golf, Miyu Yamashita carries a six-shot lead into the final round of the CPKC Women’s Open after needing only 79 putts across three rounds. In the WTA, Coco Gauff meets Jessica Pegula in Cincinnati’s first all-American women’s final in 56 years. On the ATP side, Arthur Fils faces Frances Tiafoe in the first Masters 1000 final between two Black players. In MLB, the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers meet in the Little League Classic. Beyond the scoreboard, New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton suffered a moderate left calf strain while rehabbing his right calf, putting the rest of his season in doubt.
