Drew Rasmussen held New York to one hit over six and two-thirds innings while striking out 11. The Yankees won Game 1, 2 to 0, behind eight scoreless innings from Carlos Rodón. Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Dodgers blanked the San Diego Padres 7 to 0 as Freddie Freeman drove in three, the Houston Astros shut out the Seattle Mariners 7 to 0, and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6 to 4. In the WNBA, Caitlin Clark collected 27 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Indiana Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx 96 to 77. In UFC action, Norbert Növényi Jr. defeated Theo Haig by decision in the middleweight main event.

Looking ahead, Shohei Ohtani returns to the Dodgers’ lineup against the Padres after missing 15 days with right-biceps and left-knee soreness; he comes back with 30 home runs and a 902 OPS. Elsewhere in MLB, the Rays face the Yankees again, the Astros visit the Mariners, the Brewers meet the Phillies, and the Cleveland Guardians play the Boston Red Sox. In the WNBA, the Atlanta Dream can secure first-round home-court advantage against the New York Liberty, while the Dallas Wings visit the Seattle Storm. On Thursday, the United States begins its Presidents Cup defense at Medinah, chasing an 11th consecutive win over the International team. Off the court, Kawhi Leonard agreed to a two-year, 115 million dollar extension with the Toronto Raptors that includes a 2028-29 player option.
